scary thing no. 1: karl rove
i've been reading up on something interesting tonight: the downfall of former alabama don siegelman at the hands of a network of screwy, sleazy, corrupt asshole republicans over in alabama over the course of about ten years. raw story lays out the story in a series of five articles it put together in november 2007.
here's part one, part two, and part three (haven't gotten to or found parts four or five yet). i highly recommend reading these articles.
siegelman's currently in prison serving a 7-year sentence, but raw story presents a convincing account of how his downfall was orchestrated and tainted from the very beginning. it is a sad story, especially in regard to how little media attention the story has received, but an interesting aspect about it is that it involves the little rat man karl rove.
that evil rat man is everywhere. what a gleeful son of a bitch -- the bogeyman himself. he's turned the world of politics into his own little playground. even though he's a not a visible figure, what he does behind the scenes, orchestrating the rise of corruptible republican politicians and the downfall of any who oppose him, shows that he's amassed a new kind of power and authority, the kind that slithers behind the scenes but controls the movements of puppets.
it's absolutely scary.
scary thing no. 2: gas prices
i'm actually glad to be starting work mid-month instead of at the first of the month. that means i only have to worry about buying gas for my car on a limited budget for only the next couple of weeks instead of three to four weeks. gas is getting so damned expensive!
my car is a bit of a gas guzzler, too. it is an older car, and i make sure to maintain it as well as i can. but a fill-up still costs me close to $ 60.
:-T
but scary as it is, i've read enough to know that the price of gasoline hasn't even peaked yet.
the prices in my neighborhood range from about $ 3.61/gallon for regular unleaded (arco am/pm) to $ 3.79/gallon (shell, exxon). i make it a point to go to this one shell station that's kinda out of my way at the moment -- but will be along my commute when i start working -- that is kinda expensive. the price is set at about $ 3.71/gallon -- but it offers a free express car wash any time you buy 8 or more gallons.
hell yeah, i'm cheapskate enough to go for the free car wash! if i'm going to pay that much for gas, i'm gonna take advantage of any freebies i can get.
speaking of getting back into "work" mode, i think i also need to recallibrate my sleep habits; maintaining my vampire sleep-hours is probably not advisable at this point.
scary thing no. 3: bar exam results
i've begun thinking about bar exam results coming out soon -- and so i put a count-down ticker up finally. damn it. i'm not in worry-mode yet, but i'm sure the feeling will arrive soon enough. :-P
another minor change to the blog is that i've temporarily turned off my feed. it'll remain off for a while.
scary thing no. 4: no coffee today
it was a fluke! but today, i didn't have a cup of coffee at all -- and i actually survived the day.
O_O
good hell. hopefully, today was just an anomaly, and i won't have to go without my needed caffeine dosage tomorrow.
